The Worst Is Over…

Warning: Portions of this video are somewhat graphic in nature.

This video was recently brought to my attention and I really like it. It was produced by Etienne Vannier and the highly skilled hypnosis instructor is Timothy Trujillo.

The very simple techniques described in this video are just a few of those taught during our live NLP Training & Hypnosis Training courses, but they can literally make the difference between a person experiencing stress during a traumatic event- and having to deal with post traumatic stress “disorder”… **Note that I use quotation marks for the term “disorder”, because I don’t feel that it is a disorder- and with the assistance of NLP, hypnosis, EFT and many other modalities, people can overcome post traumatic stress.

In addition to viewing this short video, I highly recommend the book; “The Worst Is Over: What to Say When Every Moment Counts–Verbal First Aid to Calm, Relieve Pain, Promote Healing, and Save Lives” written by Judith Acosta & Judith Simon Prager.

Why Not Ask Why??

Why Not Ask Why?

In the early days of many NLP training programs and some Life Coach Training programs,  it was often noted somewhat religiously that you should never ask the question WHY?  This is especially noted when using the Meta Model.  Many trainers and practitioners still believe that you should never ask why and practice it with the same religious overtones. Silly disciples…

NLP was never meant to stay the same and has always been meant to continually evolve. That said, there are some very good reasons you should use caution when asking the question “Why”. Especially when using the Meta Model.

These reasons include the fact that asking “Why” does not provide specific information and after all that’s what the Meta Model is all about, right? Getting specific information from your client or yourself about what we delete, distort, and generalize.

Well, it can actually be quite useful to ask the question “Why” so long as you use it appropriately.

Let me first explain how your brain works when you ask any question– whether it be why, how, what, which, who, or whom?

As you’ve probably heard before, your brain is very similar to a computer- only a billion times more powerful. Remember, human beings created computers, not the other way around.

That being said, when we ask a question, our brain searches the literally billions of “files” of past experiences in order to find answers to that question and most of this process is completely unconscious.

Very similar to doing a Google search for “Why is the sky blue?” Google will find thousands of answers for you. Some correct, some not. Some useful and some not- and you can only “consciously” see the first ten answers, and all the rest are hidden from your “conscious awareness” on all of the back pages.

Also, as many of you may have learned from a film called “The Secret” something that has been known to the world of NLP since its inception…

Whatever you focus on, either conscious or unconscious you will manifest more of in your life. Therefore by understanding that when you ask “Why” you are unconsciously searching billions of files and focusing on them causing you to “manifest” more of what you are asking why about?

Here are some examples of rather unresourceful Why questions…

  • Why do I keep ending up in the same unresourceful relationships?
  • Why do I keep ending up with jobs that I hate?
  • Why can’t I seem to focus?
  • When you ask “Why” to an unresourceful question, you tend to manifest more of what’s unresourceful for you.

So how can I get an answer to an unresourceful question without asking why?  Great question…

Here’s the formula…

First ask, “What’s the lesson?” or “What am I meant to learn from this experience?”, then ask, “What do I really want”, followed by the rest of NLP’s  “Well Formed Outcome”.

For Example:

Instead of asking, “Why do I keep ending up in the same unresourceful relationships” You can and I strongly encourage you to ask…

  • “What’s the message that I’m trying to tell myself?

  • “What am I supposed to learn OR what can I learn from these past relationships?” This uses presuppositions to your advantage AND it’s one of the NLP presuppositions, only worded differently. Every act has a positive intent.

GET THAT MESSAGE
so that it can stop trying to be delivered over and over again…

THEN… Ask,
“Now that I understand what I was trying to teach myself…

WHAT
kind of relationship do I really want?

Then… Ask
“Is this good for me, good for others, and ideally good for the environment? If yes to all three…

Then ask, HOW
can I allow myself to have this kind of relationship while making an effort to move towards it?

And your NLP Certifications will be signed by myself, John La Valle (The President
of The Society of NLP), and Dr. Richard Bandler (The Co-creator of NLP) so you will be very well credentialed and be able to advertise yourself as so…

EFT Training…

Well, we just fished up yet another NLP Training intensive in Las Vegas and yet again, it was an incredible training. Along with learning an entire tool box of life changing technologies that students can now use with their clients, some of the major breakthroughs students had also included overcoming a couple of phobias, numerous different allergies, chronic pain and more…

The next round of trainings we do will be in 2012, and along with the usual NLP Trainings, there will be more EFT Training workshops in Las Vegas, San Diego, & Phoenix.

What I really love about teaching Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) is the fact that I can teach it in just a couple of days and along with those that are professional NLP/hypnosis practitioners that want to add this additional “All Purpose Power Tool” to their toolbox to help their clients with, those without formal training can still obtain a profound tool for change, can use EFT on themselves and gain incredible results.

You can keep an eye on our site, www.nlptraininquest.com for upcoming dates on all of our trainings. I’d love to see you there!

Visiting My Friend & Mentor In The Hospital…

Originally written 9-22-11 @ 12:30 p.m.

I visited my mentor and best friend in the hospital today.
The moment I heard he was in stage 4 of pancreatic cancer,
I jumped on the first plane I could get, because I knew…
I just had to be there. I got there at about 8a.m.
and stayed until about 10a.m.

It was just me and him. I spoke with him and he
spoke with me. No, he didn’t speak out loud.
He’s on life support and not able to speak in
that way, but I could hear him.
I could hear him loud and clear.

He just kept saying to me…

“Kevin, you’ve got work to do. There are millions
of people that need what you have to share with
the world. You’re like me, you’re a protector and
you know that we should always help those that
can’t or don’t know how to help and protect themselves.

Make me even more proud of you than I already
am and continue building what you’re building.
You may not have a “leather ass” like me, but
your sensitive soul is just as strong if not stronger
because it comes from an unstoppable force, Love.
You have the same energy as my father.

It’s your sensitivity that is your greatest strength.
You’ve worked hard to get where you’re at and
you did it for all the right reasons. I’m always in
your corner and I know you’re always in mine…”

Those were the words I just kept hearing from him
as I sat next to him holding his hand and sending
him energy.

I heard those words so clearly, because those are
words he has shared with me on many occasions.

I wanted to wait around longer- to at least
say hello to his family, but I just kept hearing
him say “I’m always in your corner, and I know
you’re in mine- but I need you to get back out there
and reach the people that need us most and you’re
not going to do that talking to me in this hospital bed.
You’re going to do that by taking the love you have
for me and the love that I have for you- and letting
that energy drive you even more”.

So I finally left his side, physically but not in spirit.

Tom Hoobyar is one of the greatest men, scratch that…
Tom Hoobyar is THE greatest man I’ve ever had the
honor of calling my friend.

Many might say they’ve got your back when
you need it most, but few truly mean it.

As I sit here in the airport waiting for my flight
back to Vegas, the tears just flow and I know
people feel sad for me and I want to tell them…

Don’t feel sad for me because these are not tears
of sadness, these are tears of pure love and joy
for having the absolute honor and privilege to
have a friend and mentor such as Tom Hoobyar.

The best man I know…

This one, and many others to come are for you Tom.

With Tremendous Love & Gratitude.
I WILL make you proud and your legacy will live on…

The Ultimate Act Of Selflessness…

Originally written 9- 23-11 @ 5:31 p.m.

Tracy Hoobyar, Daughter of my dearest friend & mentor,
Tom Hoobyar has now figured out why Tom specifically
requested to be kept on life support for 2 weeks after
his body begins to fail.

The reason why, is so that people who love him most
can have the opportunity to be by his side and have
no regrets of not being able to tell him how much
he means to them.

A truly selfless act. The exact kind of selfless act that
has made this man my best friend- and eternal mentor.

Tom, whether you choose to evolve into another plane
of existence, or if you choose to join us back in this one,
I’ve always got your back and I’m always in your corner
and nothing will ever stop that.

Your Eternal Friend,

-Kevin

Living Your Purpose…

Originally written 9-25-11 @ 10:30 a.m.

This morning, at 5:43a.m. my dear friend and mentor,
Tom Hoobyar transitioned to another plane of existence.

Also, today at 2p.m. I visit my brother and his wife for
the baby shower of their first boy.

Life’s Purpose: Live, Grow, Evolve, and Contribute- On YOUR terms…

Tom truly lived his Purpose on this plane-
And will continue to Live it in a different form…

There is now another voice that guides me in the work I do…
With Great Respect & Warmest Regards,

NLP Technique For Resolving Grief…

This footage is part of a 5 part series on how to overcome unresolved grief. I was filmed during the Master Practitioner portion of one of our NLP, Life Coach & Hypnosis Training intensives. Although this clip isn’t a fully step by step tutorial, it should give you a pretty good idea of what’s possible to learn and experience during a live NLP Training . Grief is a part of life, but it doesn’t have to lead to suffering and it is very possible to help yourself and your clients overcome even the most painful of grief, in as little as one session.

Sometimes when people find out that I work with grief clients, they ask me if I find it depressing and I tell them not at all! It’s actually incredibly rewarding to help a client rid themselves of what often times has been years of suffering, and enable them to experience true love and forgiveness (for themselves and others). This process is one of the foundational techniques I use when working with grief clients. Although I have modified this specific technique, credit goes to Steve & Connirae Andreas for originally creating it.

An interview of me with Hawaii Hypnosis

A few months back I was interviewed by Hawaii Hypnosis  and the interviewer, Antonio asked me a lot about my NLP Training along with how I overcame some pretty major challenges in my life with NLP & Hypnosis. He also asked me to expand on my thoughts regarding EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques), Purposeful Empowerment, and he asked me to guide listeners through a demonstration of a powerful technique I use with just about all of my clients…

You can check it out here: Hawaii Hypnosis.

I hope you find it educational and even inspirational for areas of your own life…

Getting Creative With NLP Techniques…

Here is a demonstration I did during an NLP Training in Las Vegas, Nevada a couple of years ago.

It involves assisting  a student in overcoming his extreme fear of flying via a classic NLP Technique called “Mapping Across”.

Although this NLP Technique is not usually used for fears and phobias- I remember the first time a student asked me if it could be and I stated, “There’s one way to find out” and sure enough it worked wonderfully well. This is the KEY to understanding the ART behind the techniques of NLP. When you truly understand that art of NLP, Life Coach & Hypnosis, you are able to be considerably more flexible in your approach and able to gain results where others- who only know the “steps” of a specific technique would find themselves stumped in what to do when the specific technique doesn’t work.

Below is a copy of an email he sent me after his very long flight back to Germany that he of course gave me permission to share…

“Hi Kevin,

First, I’m sorry to hear of the passing of your friend Gil Boyne. If he was your mentor, then he must have been a great man indeed! I’m sure I’ll become more familiar with him and his work as I continue my journey.

I’d also like to let you know that my flight back was a piece of cake! The most relaxing that I can remember. Although my anxiety was not completely vanished, especially when we hit turbulence, I’d say on a scale of 1 to 10, it was no more than a 3 (compared to 8 or 9 on the trip over). I’ll get it down to “0″ with time. Thanks again!! And, I know that I have a ways to go to get where I want, but I am CONFIDENT that I’ll get there,

Thanks for being MY friend and mentor,

Till then,

Terry”

**For those that may not have known him, Gil Boyne was both a pioneer and continued contributor to the field of hypnotherapy who happened to be both a friend and mentor of mine. The email above was referencing a newsletter I had sent out in 2010 regarding his passing.
