All of our feelings and actions are determined first by the thoughts (representations) that we create and imagine in our minds which in turn creates a feeling. That feeling causes us to take action "towards" or "away" from the thought depending on which direction we are motivated to move in. The catch however, is that even if we "think" we are moving "away" from a particular thought and trying "not to think about it", our unconscious mind is still thinking about it and causing us to move towards it.
For example,"Don't Think About A Purple Elephant". Come on now... Don't Think About A Purple Elephant.
Of course you were unable to "not think" about the purple elephant and the reason why is because when you make a statement phrased with a negation such as "Don't Think About A Purple Elephant" or "Don't Remember A Time In Your Life When Were Able To Feel Wonderful Right Now!!!" your creative subconscious mind must first create an image of what it's "not supposed to think about". This is extremely important to understand when communicating with others, setting goals for yourself, and so much more...
This is something that NLP has been teaching people since the1970's and really, it was no "secret" even then. This is just the tip of the ice-burg and a small portion of the "101" of all that you will learn when you decide to attend your first NLP Training Course.
Now have some fun and scroll your mouse over the purple elephant above....
