Pain Control Article

2-10-2009

Well, I know many of you are dying to know how my surgery went today...

It was one hell of an experience to say the least.

Cutting of the gums... E.A.S.Y....

Drilling... Minor discomfort but no biggie at all.
Was actually pretty damn proud of myself...

Stopping my own bleeding... Was like a light switch... Just shut the flow off.

Stitches at the end... Again.... E.A.S.Y.

The major pulling/digging of the teeth... I tensed up and that's the absolute #1 worst thing you can do...

Before I go any further, let's discuss what pain is...

It's a messenger right? Of course it is...
Whether mental or physical it's trying to tell us something.

99% of the time this is a wonderful thing. If we put our hand in fire, we will feel pain so that we move our hand and do not get burned and in other cases of physical pain such as headaches, it may be letting us know that there's something going on with us that we need to pay attention to. Perhaps better diet, perhaps something more serious like a tumor...

With emotional pain it's telling us that we need to pay attention because there is a lesson we are trying to tell ourselves... Mind you, this doesn't mean to indulge in these emotions. Simply pay attention to them and hear what it is that we are trying to tell ourselves. Hear what we are needing and allow ourselves to receive it while taking action towards it....

Make sense so far?

So what about with physical pain when it comes to surgery and or chronic pain?

Well, with chronic pain (meaning pain that has gone on for more then 6 months), in my experience (and many medical doctors & scientists agree with me...) The mind remembers physical pain just as strongly as it does emotional pain... A trauma is simply and very "pseudo-scientifically" explained I fully admit,  neurons that have never stopped communicating, just like how a phobia  is created. It's essentially one time learning that can be increased over time but is created from one specific and usually significant emotional experience where neurons connected in a powerful way and just never stopped.

Both the emotional & physical pain related to chronic pain created by a trauma can very often be relieved via different forms of hypnotic regression work including a process of numerous NLP technigues that I created called Time Quest Transformation™ which I've had tremendous success with in the past. Sometimes without even being aware that the client/student actually suffered from chronic pain until they tell me after the work *emotional* work that we do that their *physical* pain has completely disappeared, so I really can't take credit for it either way because bottom line, it's always within them...

So again... Kevin, WHAT ABOUT REGARDING PAIN DURING SURGERY????

Here's the thing.... As perfect as I believe every human being, and really every living thing on the planet is... There are still some minor "imperfections..." Yeah, I'm "flip flopping" a bit with my words... Yes, I believe we are "perfectly imperfect".

In the case of surgery (like with what I experienced today), the pain that I ended up feeling towards the end was a part of my mind saying "HEY!!!!!!!! WHAT THE F&CK's going on here????

This MO-FO with a mask on is trying to take our freaking teeth!!!!!!!! QUICK, DO SOMETHING!!!! TENSE UP!!!! GET READY TO KICK THIS TOOTH FERRY'S FREAKIN ASS!!!!!!!!!

Then it was downhill from there. I paid too close of attention to "the voice" and paid attention to the pain and that just increases it. Then once you lose it (which i did).... It's very challenging to go back.

Don't get me wrong, there were other voices in there as well... Actually some emotional ones...

Emotional voices such as "You can't do this... You remember all the times you didn't complete this or didn't complete that?", And a voice that was also very strong was saying something along the lines of "You're letting every one down if you quit.... All of these people are counting on you to show them that anything... Truly anything is possible..."

So, remember how I said that we are all "perfectly imperfect"? And remember how when it comes to emotional pain, it's simply a message to pay attention. Well.... I am most certainly perfectly imperfect and some messages were heard by me today.

I experienced both physical and emotional pain today and I'm glad. I'm grateful...

You see... I learned so many things about what is possible along with so many things about myself  that I was not consciously aware of. Well, not fully aware of at least.

What did I learn? Too much to list but here are some biggie's...

  • I learned that I may not be ready to have teeth pulled w/out at least a local Novocaine anesthetic but I damn well know that stitches, cutting of gums, and even drilling can be virtually painless for me without any form of anesthesia and I believe with further training and time, I can work up to the complete pain control that so many others have achieved including actual teeth pulling.

  • I learned that I can be pretty hard on myself when it comes to beliefs of letting others down and even those who teach, need to pay attention to those messages when they come up so that they can learn and heal from them.

  • I learned (after watching the video of myself) that HOLY CRAP! As a whole... I did pretty damn well. Not as well as I "planned" and not as well as I would have liked but still...  No screaming, no grabbing the surgeon by the neck, no running out of the office, no begging for mercy LOL....  (Yes, believe it or not I've actually been laughing A LOT since the surgery including about 20 minutes after...)

I learned so much more as well and I will be sure to continue to journal my experience for myself  but you are probably curious to know, do I still have all 4 teeth?

Answer: No... I have 3 and 1/4...  The first tooth actually broke off towards the end after pulling on it for quite some time and the oral surgeon felt it was best to retreat, regroup and come back in a better state. I've chosen to use Novocaine next time around. How much I haven't decided yet as I'm certain there will be a certain degree of anchors I need to collapse such as the smell of the smoke from the drill, the sounds of the "pick" picking at my tooth and maybe even the music being played... In some ways I believe it will be easier, in some ways... I'm honestly not sure.

Whatever the outcome, I'll let you guys know...

Oh and how am I feeling now? Cheek's a little swollen but for the most part I feel totally fine. Just in contemplation...

Keep in mind, this article is being written the same day of the surgery...
